Brides of Ireland

I am now in my 4th season as a wedding solomniser in my capacity as a One Spirit Interfaith Minister in Ireland. I work with couples, to create individually crafted personal ceremonies for marrying couples all over the country.

Brides of Ireland

Every Month or so something significant at one of my weddings will connect me with the exiting pulse of the fast evolving wedding culture of Ireland. This time it’s the brides, the beauty and grace of their apparel, and the deep significance of wearing white.

In our modern times, how can it be that this arcane and historic theme endures? Well the impact of a woman in white lace walking down the isle towards her fiancé is immensely powerful. But where does this power come from? In my opinion the breathtaking impact (which often has family members and friends either in tears or smiling with unconstrained enthusiasm) connects us with the heart energy, with our love and our innocence, our purity and our humility.

And those esoteric spiritual themes mentioned above, are powerful and wonderful when we feel them and connect with them, and when we allow ourselves to act from the place they come from

I asked my brides to tell me how they feel at that moment when they are about to walk down the isle through a space full of their standing, waiting loved ones and towards their future husband. The majority of them have told me they feel beautiful, very special and honoured (some say ”like a princess” for example) They feel ready, nervous, but calm because these women know they have put their hearts into getting it right; the dress, the hair, the makeup, the shoes, the overall look. They themselves are their own creation on that day more than any day. The joy of having completed the ritual of preparation is undoubtedly present. Preparation for the symbolic giving of ones heart to another.

As the bride in white enters, love guides me, love guides the bride and groom, the guests, the whole ceremony. Love pours from the groom standing with me, waiting. Of course the white dress is not the only thing that opens our hearts, but it has a role to play, an enigmatic and interesting role in thousands of ceremonies across Ireland and across the world. There is plenty of history behind the white dress, but what does it mean to you when you see a bride in white? What feelings are evoked? Why not let me know on my Facebook page Facebook
